Other important interest groups include the Zairian League for Human Rights, founded in the late 1980s, and professional associations such as the Medical Association and Bar Association, which existed for decades but only acquired political significance in the freer political environment. By contrast, the National Association of Enterprises of Zaire (Association Nationale des Entreprises du Zaïre--ANEZA) has remained in the hands of close associates of Mobutu and apparently has little independent political weight.
